- For 25 years, the Via Alpina has been connecting people, cultures and landscapes across the Alpine region as an international long-distance hiking trail. With a series of podcasts, the project "Voices along the Via Alpina" tells its story, highlights the challenges and opportunities of long-distance hiking and raises awareness of sustainable tourism in the Alps. To mark the end of the anniversary year and International Mountain Day on 11 December 2025, CIPRA International is hosting a film evening at Skino, followed by a panel discussion and apéro at Literaturhaus Liechtenstein.

Programme
6.30 p.m. at Skino: Film "Via Alpina – Sur les pas des pionnières"
(original version with subtitles, with filmmaker Zoé Lemaitre)
![]() |
In 2023, Zoé Lemaitre hiked the entire Via Alpina from Trieste to Monaco. Along the way, she documented the work of women whose lives revolve around the mountains: a hut warden, a mountain guide, a freerider, a shepherdess, a climbing instructor and a mountain rescuer. Zoé gained specialist knowledge, faced loneliness and lived her dream. After the film, the audience will have the opportunity to talk to the filmmaker. |
7.30 p.m. at the Literaturhaus Liechtenstein: Panel discussion on 25 years of Via Alpina (followed by an apéro)
On the panel:

Stefanie Alis Ritter has been running the Pfälzer Hütte in Liechtenstein together with Sophia Sandkühler since 2025, fulfilling a lifelong dream. How did she find everyday life during her first season as a hut warden? What role do long-distance hikers play in her business? |
![]() |
Christian Baumgartner teaches at the Institute for Tourism and Leisure at the University of Applied Sciences of Graubünden and supports projects on sustainable tourism and regional development. He was part of a group that undertook thematic and political long-distance hikes across the Alps with "TransALPedes" and "whatsalp" 25 years apart. What changes has he observed? |
![]() |
Nora Leszczynski manages the Via Alpina secretariat at CIPRA International. The geographer and spatial planner motivates people to volunteer as "Via Alpina Volunteers" for the long-distance hiking trail. How does she do this? And how will the Via Alpina develop in the coming years? |
Moderator: Michael Gams, CIPRA International
An event as part of the Alpine Convention's Reading Mountains Festival to mark International Mountain Day.
