- The Alpine Fire is being reimagined. With Alps in Motion, CIPRA Switzerland and CIPRA International are launching an Alpine-wide Day of Action on 29 August 2026.
Every year, the Alpine Fires were accompanied by joint activities to protect the Alps. In recent years, however, the format has unfortunately lost momentum: the main obstacles were the date, in the middle of the holiday season, and the lighting of fires as the primary form of action.
Instead of abandoning the event, CIPRA Switzerland and CIPRA International are relaunching it. The day of action will now take place on the last Saturday in August: the first is due to occur on 29 August 2026. The name “Alps in Motion” refers to the Alpine protection movements and the dynamic changes in the Alpine region. Activities and actions of all kinds can be organised on this day to promote the protection of the Alps. Fires also remain a possible form of action.
All Alpine protection organisations and activists are invited to make a note of the date and plan their own activities. The campaign builds on the momentum of the “Alpine fires” and mobilises people throughout the Alpine arc on as broad a scale as possible.
