Filme für die Erde: A Pop-up Cinema Evening in Schaan

CIPRA International and Con.voi / Verein Neuraum

On Friday, May 23, 2025, a youth initiative in Schaan brought the Swiss pop-up cinema concept “Filme für die Erde” (Films for the Earth) to Liechtenstein. Each year, the initiative selects a key topic related to pressing environmental and sustainability challenges and uses carefully curated films to raise awareness, inform audiences, and inspire action.

This year’s film focused on the topic of sustainable fashion. To actively address the need for change in the clothing sector, the evening was complemented by a clothes swap. Visitors were invited to bring garments they no longer wore and exchange them with others. “We wanted to create a space where people could not only watch a film, but also experience how everyone can actively engage in change,” explained Maja Kogovšek. Background music, small drinks and toasts contributed to a relaxed atmosphere, despite very cold May weather.

The film screening started at 9:00 p.m., right after the relaxed clothing exchange. Due to weather challenges, the event was held half-outdoors; luckily there was an indoor space ready as a backup. Overall, around 1,000 people attended the nationwide film screenings organized by the “Films for the Earth” association – a wonderful confirmation of the concept of connecting local initiatives and community. Remaining clothing was donated, making the evening not only entertaining but also sustainable. The event was small around 20 guests joined to the clothes exchange, some of them also stayed for the (late) film.
